The Shearwater Chemicals Story

Originally for the Isle of Man, I studied a BSc (Hons) in Colour and Polymer Chemistry at the University of Leeds.

Following graduation, I started working at European Colour (Pigments) Ltd in the process chemistry department and undertook a number of technical roles over 11 years. European Colour was a UK manufacturer of Classical Azo and Basic Dye Complex pigments for use in inks, paints and plastics. My final position at European Colour was as Site Manager at the Woolwich Manufacturing site before the business entered administration. During my employment I completed an MBA with the Open University.

My next role was as the General Manager at Hi-Tech Coatings International Ltd, a manufacturer of water-based and UV curable overprint varnishes based in Aylesbury. Over my 14 years of employment the business grew in terms of sales turnover, head count and the factory footprint as we relocated to a new larger manufacturing site in 2013. I worked on a number of projects establishing new manufacturing sites within the business particularly in the US and India, including making technical visits and troubleshooting activities. I continued with my studies and achieved an Advanced Diploma in Management Accountancy from CIMA.

Since leaving Hi-Tech I have set up my own business; Shearwater Chemicals Ltd.
